SATISFACTION

(I CAN'T GET NO)

SATISFACTION

If there was a team of the world's best scientists and mathematicians that was dedicated to determining the most instantly recognizable guitar riff of all time and they came up with anything other than the Rolling Stones' “Satisfaction” intro, I’d tell them to reevaluate.

The guitar riff that opens “Satisfaction” is composed of only three notes and is known as one of the easier lines to learn on the guitar. But the simplicity of the riff doesn't make it any less iconic. If you are wondering if you will recognize the guitar riff and are considering listening to “Satisfaction” right now to see if you will, I'll save you some time, you'll recognize it. However, if the team of scientists and mathematicians were trying to determine the Greatest guitar riff of all time, Queen or AC/DC might give The Rolling Stones a run for their money.

In addition to this song opening with a catchy guitar riff it also features Mick Jagger's great vocals and lyrics that embody rock n' roll as a rebellion to authority. By today's standards this song would probably be classified as a mix of pop and rock but in the 60's "Satisfaction” was strictly rock n' roll

The cool thing about this song was that it wasn't rock n' roll just because of the sound. It was also considered rock n' roll because it pushed boundaries. The lyrics were controversial. Rock n' roll was more than a genre of music, it was an attitude and "Satisfaction” was  edgy, rebellious and very rock n' roll.

  1. When I saw what song you were writing about, I knew the title but I didn't think I knew the song. But, when I listened to it, I did recognize the guitar riff even though I didn't recognize the rest of the song, and I think that proves your point really well!

  2. The guitar riff in the beginning is pretty recognizable I think this is a pretty good song. One thing I noticed that I wasn't the biggest fan of is that most of the time the vocals just sound like quiet background singing, and I mean that was most likely the point. Aside from that I really like this song.
