RAPPERS DELIGHT
RAPPERS DELIGHT

"Rapper's Delight" is a seven minute song. Yes, you read that right, s e v e n m i n u t e s I spent 21 minutes of my life listening to "Rapper's Delight" for this blog. And not only is it seven minutes, it is seven minutes of pure chaos.
"I said-a hip, hop, the hippie, the hippie
To the hip hip hop-a you don't stop the rock
It to the bang-bang boogie, say up jump the boogie
To the rhythm of the boogie, the beat"
"And you can be my boyfriend you surely can
Just let me quit my boyfriend called Superman
I said, "He's a fairy, I do suppose
Flyin' through the air in pantyhose
He may be very sexy or even cute
But he looks like a sucker in a blue and red suit"
"Ever went over a friend's house to eat
And the food just ain't no good?
I mean the macaroni's soggy, the peas all mushed
And the chicken tastes like wood
So you try to play it off like you think you can
By saying that you're full"
And then your friend says, "Mama, he's just being polite
He ain't finished, uh-uh, that's bull"
What you just read was a few excerpts from the song "Rapper's Delight."
Now, despite "Rappers Delight" being an unusually long song and containing lyrics that were probably written by somebody on drugs, I'm surprised to say that I actually liked the song. It had a great beat.
"Rapper’s Delight '' is one of the most popular songs by Sugar Hill Gang. It is widely considered to be the first nationally popular hip hop song. For better or for worse, "Rapper’s Delight '' demonstrated that there was money to be made in hip-hop records.
Throughout the song there is a consistent fast tempo. Because the song is fast and consistent it is very easy to find yourself bopping your head or tapping your fingers to the beat. The tempo, pace, and bizarre lyrics make it a catchy and fun song. And even though I would have preferred "Rapper's Delight" to be a few minutes shorter, I am happy I chose to listen and review it because in the end it was fun to write about and listen to.
That is so crazy that it is that long and props to you for listening to that and all of that! I personally don't know if I would have been able to do so! I agree with you that the person who wrote this song was probably on drugs haha! I really like the fast tempo as well and you do find yourself tapping a finger or head bopping like you said.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed this one a lot more than The Message by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. Both are good but Rapper's Delight has a much more modern feel and The Message is just too 80s. I could see this one being a good dance song. Both were 7 minutes though so I totally understand listening for 21 minutes!
