NANCY (WITH THE LAUGHING FACE)
NANCY (WITH
THE LAUGHING
FACE)
Who runs the world? Fangirls do, obviously.
Fangirls have been one of the primary drivers in popular music for decades now. While music and musicians have had fans since before songs were even recorded, it’s argued that "fan girling" started in the 1940’s. Long before Beiber Fever and One direction Infection swept the nation, the very first fangirls had their hearts beating for Ol' Blue Eyes, The Sultan of Swoon, The Very First Modern Pop Superstar:
Frank Sinatra
Frank Sinatra was an acclaimed American singer and actor who is generally viewed as one of the greatest musical artists of the 20th century. Frank had a sensational array of hit songs including "Nancy (with the laughing face)”
"Nancy (with the laughing face)” was composed by Jimmy Van Heusen, with lyrics by Phil Silvers and was of course performed by Frank Sinatra which made it an instantaneous hit. I personally believe that this song (and Sinatra in general) deserved all of the hype that it got. Frank Sinatra was the definition of a heartthrob but not just because of his good looks and charisma. He had a phenomenal voice.
The song “Nancy (with the laughing face)” opens with a waltz rhythm. As the song goes on it showcases Sinatra's expert crooning. Although the lyrics of the song are fairly generic,
If I don't see her each day I miss her
Gee, what a thrill each time I kiss her
Believe me I've got a case
On Nancy with the laughing’ face
Sinatra’s voice makes it worth listening to on repeat. I don’t consider myself a “fan girl” for anyone but young Leonardo DiCaprio but I could’ve definitely loved Frank Sinatra if I had been born in a different time.
You've done such an amazing job at descripting the background of Frank Sinatra! He truly was an amazing star back then and still is now, but all the fangirling I'm sure was absolutely insane during his time. I really love this song because of how simple it is but the fact that he's so skilled in his area of crooning, he really brings lots of emotion and meaning to the song. Although, I'd have to disagree with you on him being above Leonardo DiCaprio because Frank Sinatra I'm sure could swoon anyone.
ReplyDeleteYour blog is my favorite blog I comment on it every week because it is so good. I love how you talked about how Frank deserved the hype he got because I agree! His voice is beautiful, and it really is timeless. I am also a fangirl for young Leo so love what you said there. I just really like how you explained that he was so talented that girls and everyone was obsessed with him.
ReplyDeleteI picked the same song! That's so cool! This was so interesting to learn more about and I actually enjoyed listening to his song over and over because I thought it was beautiful! Isn't it crazy how a song that old can still make you feel so warm and happy inside!
ReplyDeleteI also think Frank deserves the hype he got, his voice is very unique. Your blog is awesome and I wish I could describe songs like you.
